Great strategy meeting last night at the club. The board came up with many good ideas to improve Ryton Golf Club. Please await the finished document which, in time will be published in the members area of the website. Watch this space!

The snow is back again! How many more times will it spoil our weekends?

The summer can't come quickly enough!

Great day at the club today. 13 holes and the Vets AGM. Its great to hear that we have one of the biggest vets sections in the area and that they are all fully partaking of the competitions and events. It is always a pleasure to hear Alan Clarke speak. His treasurers report was "genious"! How is it possible to make something so mundane so interesting. Ask Alan!!!!

Great also to see the new Vets Captain Michael and his Vice Brian. The club certainly needs people who will step up to the plate and take on these time consuming roles. I wish them every success and offer them both any amount of support I can give them. I would ask all seniors and vets to support them and the team matches which seemed to cause some consternation for Past Captain George last season. Much thanks should be heaped on Geordie Allison for the extremely good job he made of captaincy last year without a vice. You da man!

There seems to be much misunderstanding/controversy surrounding Vets Handicaps. I hope that the proposal made by Bill Pope will indeed clarify and simplify things. In simple terms the vets are a club within a club and run their own handicapping system. Players in vets comps will be cut during the winter months according to their own committee rules. This will in effect mean that vets and seniors will carry two different H/Caps throughout the winter months, a club one and a vets one. Simple!

Really positive Board Meeting last night. Please read the minutes when they are placed on the website.

We have called a strategy meeting for 25th Feb in order to take a closer look at the club and to decide how best to move forward. We need to ensure that the future is carefully planned and that we move forward in a coordinated way. Further to the forum held after the AGM, if you have any ideas that could be part of the clubs strategy please forward them on to me.

Great weather for February. £410 prize fund this weekend. Ryton in good condition. Life is getting back to normal.

Just wanted to report that we are hosting an "Online Auction" in aid of Andrew Renshaws Charity. We are auctioning 4 Balls at 13 prestigious local (ish) Golf Courses and all the money will go into Andy's charity fund.

The auction terminates on 29th March and the winners will be officially anounced at the "Charity Evening" at Ryton GC on 30th March, featuring the return of the fabulous "State Express 5". Please note that tickets have been selling quickly and there are only a few left. Please leave your order behind the bar to avoid disappointment.

Well, we finally played some golf over the weekend. Life is good again. Great to see so many old faces, all of whom seem to be smiling! The course looks good taking into consideration it was under a foot of snow just over a week ago and relatively dry too (except for the new water feature on the 2nd). A huge congratulations should go to the green staff for their efforts. On Saturday we played on winter greens due to the overnight frost but on Sunday only 3 temps were in play (1st, 2nd and 11th)

Congratulations should also go all the winners on 2nd and 3rd of Feb. Nearly £320 was passed on to members as prize money over the 2 days, which is considerable taking the conditions into consideration.

I am now looking forward to some drier and warmer weather in order that some decent golf conditions are available to us all. Hopefully, our endeavours to protect the fairways by using mats (since Jan 1st) will become evident.

I am looking forward to welcoming State Express 5 back to the club on 30th March in memory of Andrew Renshaw. They were fantastic last time and they will be no doubt again. Please support this event. The main purpose of the evening is to raise money in order to purchase an item of course furniture to honour Andy. A great idea made possible by his friends and relatives.
